Meet Skipper and Flash, the Basset Hounds! We got to hang out with these cuties at Cypress Grove Park when Danielle booked a special session for her mom, Becky, and her two floppy-eared boys. Flash is about 8 months old, and his big brother Skipper is about 3. As you’ll see, they are the sweetest boys with the most expressive eyes!
How about some Basset Hound trivia?
They were originally bred by French monks in the Middle Ages to be hunting dogs, and they became very popular with aristocrats during the 18th and 19th centuries. The name comes from the French word bas, which means “low.” Their sense of smell is second only to Bloodhounds!
Bassets first came to the United States in the early 19th century, and they were recognized as an official breed by the American Kennel Club in 1885.
Besides being adorable, those long floppy ears have a purpose: they help them pick up scents from the ground!
