The second breed in our dog of the day series is the Standard Schnauzer!
I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of their facial hair! The Standard Schnauzer (one of three types of Schnauzer) originated in Germany, and its name comes from the characteristic bristly beard and moustache on the muzzle (“schnauze” in German).
The breed is very sociable and affectionate, as well as intelligent and strong willed. Believe it or not, Standard Schnauzers have served some interesting roles throughout history: artwork dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries have pictured them, and the breed was used by the German army as Red Cross aides!
