The third breed in our dog of the day series is the Silky Terrier!
I’ll be completely honest – I never knew about the Silky Terrier until we met one in person! I always thought they were Yorkies, which is apparently a fairly common mistake. The breed is actually larger than a Yorkshire Terrier and more closely related to the Australian Terrier, and it has a blue and tan coat.
The Silky Terrier originated as a vermin hunter in Australia in the late 1800s as a result of a cross between imported Yorkshire Terriers from the U.K. and indigenous Australian Terriers.
