The ninth breed in our dog of the day series is the Cane Corso!
The Cane Corso is a truly majestic breed that originated in Italy; its name comes from the Latin Cohors, which means “guardian” and “protector.” They were bred as watchdogs and they hunted wild boar in their native country.
The Cane Corso is pretty rare (prior to 1988, they were only known in Southern Italy), and their coats come in black, gray, fawn or red with brindle variations. Their athletic build and intelligence means they require a lot of exercise, but they’re pretty low maintenance when it comes to grooming thanks to their short, virtually waterproof coats.
